Domingo Cantero and José Joaquín González-Cortés, partners from the University of Cadiz, have disseminated the LIFE BIOGASNET project during the 1st International Conference on Sustainable Chemical and Environmental Engineering (Susteng 2022), organised by the Technical University of Crete in a hybrid format on August 31st-September 4th in Rethymno (Greece).
They attended the confernece in-person to present the technology introduced by LIFE BIOGASNET for desulfurising biogas, which is based on biological processes to obtain high-quality biogas and final by-products such as sulfur.
During their speeches, they talked about the installation of the project pilot plant in Cadiz, consisting of a nitrification bioreactor fed by landfill leachate and an anoxic bioscrubber fed by the effluent from the nitrification bioreactor and the biogas from the landfill wells.
In particular, Domingo Cantero detailed the operation of a sequencing batch bioreactor for the nitrification of landfill leachates, detailing the different materials and methods needed and discussing the results obtained.
As for José Joaquín González-Cortés, he centered on the landfill biogas desulfurisation stage of the project, performed thanks to a bioscubber. His presentation was contributed by Sandra Torres-Herrera, also from the University of Cadiz.
