LIFE BIOGASNET WORKSHOP

Industrial experiences in biogas desulfurisation

28th of March 2023, 11.00 – 13.30 CEST (12.00 - 14.30 EEST) | National Technical University of Athens Campus, Library Building & Online

LIFE BIOGASNET project carried out the workshop “Industrial experiences in biogas desulfurisation”.

In this workshop, the audience learned more about industrial experiences and innovative technologies in the biogas desulfurisation sector, intensive treatment of waste effluents and conversion into useful sustainable outputs, and some previous experiences in gaseous ammonia emissions treatment from composting facilities.

Additionally, attendants discovered more about the LIFE BIOGASNET prototype operation in Spain and the main challenges and prospects of the prototype operation in Greece.

About the project

The LIFE BIOGASNET project demonstrates a cost-efficient and low-cabon footprint technology for biogas upgrading in order to boost the use of biogas as a sustainable energy source and reduce the carbon footprint of the energy cycle promoting the circular economy concept.

The project promotes an innovative technology for biogas desulfurisation coupling a nitrification bioreactor with either an anoxic gas-phase biotrickling filter or an anoxic bioscrubber. The technology present potential environmental advantages compared to current practices as it can reduce the environmental footprint up to 55% by reducing the carbon dioxide emission and the waste generation and allowing to obtain a secondary raw material sutable to be valorised.
