Monitoring protocol

The BIOGASNET prototype will be implemented in two different facilities with different biogas sources in order to validate the proposed technology and to demonstrate its robustness under different conditions. Firstly, the prototype will be installed and operated at the Miramundo-Los Hardales landfill located in Cádiz (Spain) and then will be moved to a Municipal solid waste management plant (MSWTP) in Athens (Greece). The pilot plant consists in two main equipment: a nitrification bioreactor that will be fed by landfill leachate (Cádiz scenario) and an anoxic biotrickling filter that will be fed by the effluent for the nitrification bioreactor and the biogas from the landfill wells. To be implemented in Athens scenario, the pilot plant will be expanded with a scrubber to carry out the absorption of the ammonium in water and this water will be used to feed the nitrification bioreactor.
This document is mainly devoted to identifying the parameters which will be measured during the operation of the prototype at the Miramundo-Los Hardales landfill in the province of Cádiz (Spain), with the aim of characterizing the process as a whole. The document includes on-line and off-line measurements, besides its sampling frequency and the analytical methodologies employed.

This document will be later updated to include those parameters to be sampled when the prototype will be moved to the second site in Athens.
The information obtained by following this protocol will be further used to calculate some of the relevant Key Performance Indicators (KPI`s).
