[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The LIFE BIOGASNET<\/a> project was presented, by partners from the University of C\u00e1diz<\/a>, in the ExpoBAC<\/strong> held as part of the XV Annual Congress of Biotechnology (BAC)<\/strong><\/a> celebrated from 13th<\/sup> \u2013 15th<\/sup> of July in the Polytechnic University of Valencia<\/a> (Spain).<\/p>\n

Sandra Torres Herrera<\/strong>, project partner PhD student at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Food Technology of University of C\u00e1diz (UCA), participated in different sessions of the congress, presenting two posters and delivering an oral presentation, based on some of the work done within the LIFE BIOGASNET project.<\/p>\n

The first poster presented, titled \u201cKinetics of ammonium and nitrite removal by nitrifying biomass adapted to landfill leachate\u201d, <\/em><\/strong>exposes the respirometry tests carried out in the laboratory with the samples obtained from the reactor installed in the C\u00e1diz pilot site<\/a>. The aim of this work was to quantify the nitritation and nitratation rates at different ammonium and nitrite concentrations, respectively, of nitrifying biomass fed with landfill leachate using respirometric methods.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, she presented the poster \u201cOptimization of biogenic sulfur flocculation from an anoxic desulfurization bioreactor\u201d<\/em><\/strong>, which details some of the work done as part of the project with the objective to integrate the desulfurization process with a nitrification process. Finally, this work was also explained in an oral presentation delivered by Sandra Torres during the ExpoBAC session of the event.<\/p>\n

The event, organised by the Association of Biotechnologists of the Valencian Community (ABiVa<\/a>) and the Spanish Federation of Biotechnologists (FEBiotec<\/a>), included a programme with plenty of networking sessions, training courses and research presentations, among others<\/strong>. The Annual Congress of Biotechnology (BAC) brought together students, professionals and researchers of the fields of biotechnology and biosciences.<\/p>\n

About the University of C\u00e1diz <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n

The University of Cadiz<\/strong>, founded in 1979, counts with a Biological and Enzymatic Reactors Research Group<\/strong>, focused on the field of biotreatment of gaseous emissions and biogas desulfurization investigating in biodesulphurization and biofiltration of effluent gases, amongst other research areas.<\/p>\n
